Killdeer Plains is located about 1.5 hours north of Columbus. You take Rte. 23 north to Rte.294. This takes you to Killdeer Plains. Yesterday Alli Shaw(Naturalist at Sharon Woods, Meto Park Volunteers, some park visitors, & I visited Killdeer Plains from 12:30 to 5:00. Below are some highlights of our trip. Owl Pine Grove Rough-legged Hawk-Also saw 2 more in other areas Bald Eagle Nast near Area Headquarters Mature Bald Eagle on Nest Pond 33 Red-headed Woodpecker-Adult Upground Reservoir Bald Eagles-2-immature-on the ice near Canada Geese-also saw 1 near Sportsmens Service Center Lesser Scaup-2male, 1female Red-breasted Merganser-male CH-77-in Dogwood trees Eastern Meadowlarks-30+ American Kestral-2 Horned Larks-2-near Dogwood trees Intersection of CH-68 & CH-125 Sharp-shined Hawk Pond-27 Tundra Swan-39 Gadwall-male & female American Black Duck-5 I would like to thank Alli Shaw, Metro Park Voluteers, & park visitors for helping find these birds.
