Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for help with the bird ID. The specifics to watch for in birds of prey were especially helpful. Identifying marks, behavior, habits, appearance in flight, etc. After checking out my Audubon Bird ID book, my best guess is a sharp-shinned. The photo in the book looks almost identical to the one I saw yesterday but still a Cooper's is possible. I think it got a Starling in the end. As I said, I'm just beginning to ID accipiters and buteos so the up close and personal look was a plus. Happy Birding......
