Howdy All, The Spotted Towhee is still present but not as regular at the feeders as in the past two weeks. If you go, expect to wait patiently. I arrived at about 1:00 pm and stayed until 6:25 pm with a 45 minute break for a late lunch. Between 1:00 and 3:00 pm, there was no evidence of the Spotted Towhee. After a 45 minute late lunch break, I returned at about 3:45 pm, and expected to stay until sunset or bird activity stopped. Bird activity at the feeder and in the vicinity started to pick up at about 4:00 pm. At 5:40 pm, the Spotted Towhee showed up for about 10 -15 seconds. It came in form the left behind the conifer tree, inspected the area along the top of the bank and then flew down into the thicket down over the bank behind the feeders. Between 6:03 and 6;18 pm, the Spotted Towhee showed up under the feeders and sat in one of the bushes behind the feeders. It put on quite a show and was quite visible. It got into a fight with a House Sparrow. I managed a few digiscoped photos and several others that are good enough for documentation purposes. I will post them tonight on the Ohio Birding Forum and Rarebird.org. Special thanks to Jan Dixon for her hospitality to birders. It's a really neat bird to see in Ohio! It was 198 miles from my house to the Spotted Towhee at Jan Dixon's house. Directions to this bird can be found on RareBird.org and in the archived messages for Ohio-Birds. Jay Jay G.
