The flooded areas of the Scioto valley (DeLorme 68: C-2) continue to provide for enjoyable birding. I got out a little more extensively today than yesterday, but still did not venture south of Circleville. The Little Walnut Road site still had many of the same birds, but because the waters are receding here, they had begun moving to areas not easily visible. I could not relocate the probable CACKLING GOOSE. There were: Ring-necked Duck - 10-15 Ruddy Duck - 1 Northern Pintail - 15-20 Green-winged Teal - 4 Am. Black Duck - several Wood Duck - 3 Am. Wigeon - 10-15 N. Shoveler - 2 Mallard - XX Canada Goose - 50+ Backed up creek waters along Island Road, north of Commercial Point Road, and closed to through traffic because of the high water hosted: Mallard 5-10 Canada Goose - 100+/- Common Goldeneye - 2 Canvasback - 10-20 Lesser Scaup - 3-4 Green-winged Teal - 3 Redhead - 50+ N. Pintail - 1 N. Shoveler - 10-15 Ring-necked Duck - 10-20 Am. Wigeon - 10-15 Bufflehead - 10+/- Northern Harrier - 1 Crossing the river on Commercial Point Road, a collection of divers floated on the field south of the road. Expecting numbers like the previous two stops, I was astounded by 1000-2000 ducks, some too far out to ID. Present were (numbers probably LOW): Ring-necked Duck - 300-500 Redhead - 100-200 Lesser Scaup - 50-100 Canvasback - 50-100 Definitely a fun little flood event!
