I saw and heard two Killdeer in Athens County yesterday, about 5 miles East of the City of Athens. I also saw at least 100 Turkey Vultures in the air near SR 50 between Athens and Guysville. Local birders may want to watch this area because last spring Aaron Boone indicated that one of the field workers for the OBBA 2 had two Yellow-crowned Night Heron near the Guysville exit off of SR 50 (Athens County). I went back several times to look for these birds but could never locate them. Also on this farm in Morgan County (just North of Athens County DeLorme 70 D2), I had 25 Red-winged Blackbirds, 5 Grackle, and 3 Woodcock. There are also many Turkey Vultures flying around this area. In addition to the above noted 100 Turkey Vultures, I had about 20 more Turkey Vultures near the north end of Burr Oak Lake. The thaw and snow melt over the last couple of weeks has revealed a lot of deer carcass's on the roadsides and the Vultures are loving it. Any other "sightings" of killdeer out there ? They're just a bit earlier than previous years. Thanks, Dave Kersten & Rev.
