Greetings!

I just returned this morning from running research transects at the Wilds and had my first Henslow's Sparrow of the year! This was a total surprise for me as I have never had one on territory in March and this is a good two weeks or so early for them to be here.

The bird was on one of Professor Danny Ingold's (Muskingum College) research plots along Zion Ridge road, about halfway between SR 146 and the cemetery.

There was only one bird and he was all over the research plot on the hillside, but I finally got a sight confirmation of him on the ground calling. He was very vocal, but calling low on the ground...never coming up to perch on the vegetation.

Very early sighting and arrival for this species...at least from my experience.

  Good birding,

  Jason
