I took advantage of the fine weather today to check things out at the Eastwood and Huffman
Metroparks in Dayton (Delorme p 65 B7). Eastwood yielded little of interest (Canada goose, song
sparrow, ring-billed gull), as the lake is still frozen over. I spent only 10 minutes there at 10 am.

I went to Huffman at 6 pm, and it was a different story. Above the dam, The lake was open. There
were a good number of ducks and geese gathered, probably 200-300 or so. I was definitely in need
of better optics, but I did my best. Birds included common and hooded mergansers (abundant),
bufflehead, redhead, common goldeneye, Canada goose, and tundra swan (2). The shore yielded
great blue heron and belted kingfisher. Of course, there were always morning doves and northern
cardinals to watch close by.
