Hi Folks - This is vague report (as far as details) of 2 (two) SWAINSON'S HAWKS reported from Conneaut Harbor this afternoon. I just received word at 2:30 p.m., not sure of the exact times of sightings. Discovered by a group of Amish gentlemen. One bird was a typical light phase adult and it LANDED on the mudflats. The second was suggested to be a dark phase adult bird. Swainson's Hawk is a rare/accidental raptor in Ohio. We have several records, typically in spring and fall migration. Light phase adult birds, when seen well, are unmistakable. Any dark phase buteo should be studied in great detail. Hopefully we'll receive much better information later. I apologize, again, for the lack of details, but Swainson's Hawk is a great bird. More remarkable, the report of two at one location. cheers Jen Jen Brumfield Akron, Ohio [log in to unmask] Birding America / www.birding-america.com Illustrator/Naturalist, Cleveland Metroparks Nikon Birding Optics ProStaff/ nikonusa.com Editorial Advisor, A Bird's-Eye View / ABA personal site: www.meadowhawkart.com "Journeys, like artists, are born and not made.
