Hello, Birding at Killbuck Wildlife Area this morning (Wayne County, see OOS website for area description), we found two Baltimore Orioles--I sure was wrong in thinking we were seeing an orange metal reflector across the field! This is the earliest we've seen them. Among 47 species we saw were three other first of season sightings for us: 1 chimney swift, 4 palm warblers, and a black-throated green warbler. Nearly all of the shorebirds present yesterday at the Shreve Fishpond apparently took advantage of the favorable winds and left. On our way to Killbuck we saw 6 turkeys at feeders adjacent to our local library where we returned some books--wonder if the hunters whose vehicles we saw, saw as many on this first day of turkey season?!
