This morning I checked Mudhen Marsh at the preserve for the arrival of Prothonotary Warblers. My nest boxes in this area are scattered along the shore on the north side of Big Walnut Road. The morning produced 10 singing males, several of which were observed bringing materials to construct dummy nests in both nest boxes and natural cavities. While checking the nest box trail I watched for other arrivals on the north side, then went to the south side of Big Walnut and checked for activity there. Birds of interest observed this morning included: Wood Duck (12) Blue-winged Teal (6) Northern Shoveler (2) Hooded Merganser (3) Double-crested Cormorant (78) Osprey (1) Red-shouldered Hawk (1) Spotted Sandpiper (2) Pileated Woodpecker (2) Great Crested Flycatcher (3) Yellow-throated Vireo (2) Warbling Vireo (8) Ruby-crowned Kinglet (7) Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (20+) Hermit Thrush (2) Wood Thrush (3) Brown Thrasher (2) Nashville Warbler (6) Yellow Warbler (5) Yellow-rumped Warbler (20+) Black-throated Green Warbler (4) Yellow-throated Warbler (2) Palm Warbler (5) Prothonotary Warbler (10) Louisiana Waterthrush (1) White-crowned Sparrow (2) Charlie Bombaci Hoover Nature Preserve Delorme 58 C (2) ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
