Pickerington Ponds MP - Columbus
I don't remember much reported on the Heron rookery by Ellis pond there
lately, so here is what I saw yesterday (sun 4/1)

There were about 25 nests. I don't get out there a lot, but there is a
new colony with excellent views from Wright Road (I have a vague
recollection of it being mentioned last year). This one appeared (via
binocs) to have about 18 nests and the birds were quite active [nest
building???]. The old one, better viewed from the other side, still had
the 7 nests which have been there. There were herons there, but not so
active [incubating???]

The upper ponds contained numerous coots and scattered groups of
Shovelers. I couldn't see any other ducks aside from a some mallards and
a few black.
I arrived during a rain shower. Just afterward there were 3 Osprey on the
platform at Arrowhead Marsh. Two soon left and circled the area most of
the afternoon. The 3rd was still on the platform when I left Glacier
Knoll.

There was also an immature Red-tailed Hawk at the far end of the Killdeer
trail, just past the junction of the Yellowlegs trail.
