This afternoon I checked the activity at Area M of the Hoover Nature Preserve. This is the area the takes in the boardwalk, the small coves next to it and the wooded area that extends to the trail at Area N. As noted by others the migration in Central Ohio is still sparse, but it is at least starting to produce some interesting birds. At Area N I was greeted by one of the Prothonotary Warblers John Kunezli banded in 2004. He came in close enough to totally distinguish the bands color combination and identify him as being banded at nest box N-9. When found today he was within 200 feet of the location where he was banded. He had company today as there were 4 other males singing in the immediate area. The Osprey were both out at the nest platform off the end of the boardwalk. The female was on the nest and the male was perched in a tree nearby. Other warblers at Area N today included numerous Yellow-rumped, a few Palm and a Yellow-throated. Several Warbling Vireos were singing and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers were everywhere.
