Reports have been gleaned by the compiler from various internet sources, particularly Ohio-birds, The Ohio Birding Forum, the RareBird.org forums, Cincinnati Bird Sightings Log, Southwestern Ohio (Dayton) Rare Bird Alert, and from some individual observers who kindly share their knowledge. Questions, comments, complaints and additional noteworthy sightings not posted to one of the above may be sent to the compiler. Review List Species. (Review list species are sufficiently rare that details of any sighting can help increase our understanding of Ohio's bird life. Suggestions and guidelines for submitting documentation of review list birds can be found at the OOS website (www.ohiobirds.org). SPOTTED TOWHEE: Last reported on Wednesday April 4, at the feeder of Ms. Jan Dixon, 1948 Whitby Court, Holland, Lucas County. Seasonal Highlights: Migration is progressing well in the state with many of the state's breeding birds begginning to return. Blue-headed Vireos, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Northern Parula, Black-throated Green Warblers, Yellow-throated Warblers & Lousiana Waterthrushes have all been reported by multiple observers. Ruby-crowned Kinglets have also been sighted. Red-Throated Loon: Migrating through the state last week with Rob Thorn reporting 1 from Alum Creek Reservoir on 4/1 and John Pogacnik reporting 1 over Lake Erie on 3/31 Least Bittern: John Habig sighted 1 from the Spring Valley boardwalk on 4/3 Little Blue Heron: Carlton Schooley found 1 at Spring Valley on 4/2 Yellow-Crowned Night Heron: 3 birds have returned to their traditional nest sight in Bexley (near Columbus). First reported by Bill Whan on 4/1. American-golden Plover: This species made a major push through the state in the past week. Vic Fazio had 1000 birds in the Big Island Area on 4/1 Spotted Sandpiper: An early bird was found at Upper Sandusky reservoir on 4/1 by Rick Counts Least Sandpiper: Frank Frick found a single bird at Caesar Creek on 4/1. Little Gull: John Pogacnik recorded 1 during his Lake County lake watch on 3/31 Whip-poor-will: Zach Allen reported hearing the seasons first bird from Scioto County on 4/1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird: 2 birds reported in the past week. Doug Sheldon had 1 near Wakeman on 4/1 and Tracey Morman saw 1 on 4/2 in Meigs County Prairie Warbler: The seasons first report came from Zaleski State Forest on 4/4. Bruce Simpsom was the observer. Palm Warbler: Warbler season at Magee Marsh has officially started, 1 bird was reported on 4/2 Black & White Warbler: Bob Royse reported 1 from Shawnee State Forest on 4/2 Yellow-headed Blackbird: A single bird was sighted singing in the marsh around the Magee Marsh hawk watch tower on 3/30 ____________________________________________________________________________________ We won't tell.
