Stopped by Killbuck today to see if I could find any interesting species. These were the highlights. Blue-winged Teal Mallard Northern Shoveler Hooded Merganser Ring-necked Duck Lesser Scaup Cooper’s Hawk (one adult with mouse in talons) Canvasback American Wigeon Herring Gull Ruddy Duck Bufflehead Lesser Yellowlegs Greater Yellowlegs Wilson’s Snipe Pectoral Sandpiper Bonaparte’s Gull (several were following Tractor tilling field along 226) Shorebirds were located across from Wright Marsh in partially drained pond. Also drove by Funk Bottoms quickly. Water levels are down very low in comparison to when the Eurasian Wigeon was around. The main activity was on a wetland 500 yards to the south- east of the observation platform. Many ring-billed and Bonaparte’s Gulls were swarming the area filled with coots. Behind the wetland in a meadow was a pair of Sandhill Cranes. Finished the day at Mohican State Park and Pleasant Hill Lake. At Mohican there were several Brown Creepers around as well as Eastern Phoebes. At Pleasant Hill there were at least 11 Common loons in full breeding plumage. There was also 5 Greater Scaup as well as several Cormorants. I finished with 60 species for the day, it was a fun little outing. Good Birding. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
