A pair of bluebirds had been seen regularly in my yard (Copley Twp in western Summit Co) for the last 3-4 weeks, often investigating the nesting box. This would be only the second year I have hosted nesting bluebirds in my yard! Tuesday, 4/10, I found blue-gray red-tipped feathers on the ground near my bluebird box. The male bluebird was seen the next day, but I have not seen the female. There is a cooper's hawk, or several, that are year 'round residents of the neighborhood. I will be quite upset if the female bluebird ended up on his dinner plate! Will the male bluebird find a new mate? Or will he leave and not return? I am hoping the feathers turn out to be a robin's... but I don't have a good feeling. On a more pleasant note, a brown thrasher and a male eastern towhee showed up in the yard on 4/2. Towhee is a yard first! The thrasher has been hanging around ever since.
