Fellow Birders, While waiting for the Rhodes Tower Peregrine Falcon eggs to hatch you might try tuning in to the action on the Cleveland Falconcam at http://www.falconcam-cmnh.org This Falconcam follows Peregrine Falcons, S/W and Buckeye, on the 12th floor of Cleveland’s classic skyscraper, the Terminal Tower. The first chick hatched at 6:15 am Thursday morning. The second hatched last night. The parents have been attending closely through heavy rain and thunderstorms. The status of their third egg is unknown. Three cameras are trained on the nest ledge that overlooks Cleveland’s Public Square. Like many other falconcams, images from the three cameras are refreshed every 60 seconds. Unique to the site however is an 8 hour archive of the thumbnail images. This image bank allows detailed observation of the timing of behavior at the nest. Incubation shifts changes, frequency of feeding, percentage of time each parent spends at the nest and many other aspects of behavior can be determined without being glued to your computer 24/7. The new close-up camera at the site has excellent zoom capabilities as well as nighttime imaging. Also check out the Forums to see photos and comments posted by falcon enthusiasts from around Ohio and around the world. Enjoy! Harvey Harvey B.
