numbers of blackpoll warblers on may 23 and 24 along the breakwall which leads to the lighthouse, along the fisherman's path, and the property east of the fisherman's path have been the best i have ever experienced in the spring. counts both days exceeded 50 birds and many birds were singing. the majority of the birds were males but there were plenty of females in this movement. 21 species of warblers were recorded on both may 22 and 23 in the headlands/mentor lagoons area while today's count, indicative of lower numbers for most species (except blackpoll warbler), was 16 species of warblers. singing least, alder, willow, and acadian flycatchers were noted as well as a rather late dark-eyed junco. birds have become much less vocal after 9:00 a.m. both yesterday and today, probably because of the very warm weather locally.
