Compiler: Paul Gardner. Email: [log in to unmask] This is a summary of noteworthy birds reported from Ohio in the previous week or so. Reports have been gleaned by the compiler from various internet sources, particularly Ohio- Birds, The Ohio Birding Forum, the RareBird.org forums, Cincinnati Bird Sightings Log, Southwestern Ohio (Dayton) Rare Bird Alert, and from some individual observers who kindly share their knowledge. Questions, comments, complaints and additional noteworthy sightings not posted to one of the above may be sent to the compiler. Review List Species. (Review list species are sufficiently rare that details of any sighting can help increase our understanding of Ohio's bird life. Suggestions and guidelines for submitting documentation of review list birds can be found at the OOS website (www.ohiobirds.org). GLOSSY IBIS: Greg Links reported that four of the Metzger Marsh birds remained on the 2nd. PIPING PLOVER: Sherrie Duris reported one from Metzger Marsh on the 28th that was widely seen and photographed. Ray Hannikman, Jim McConnor, and Jerry Talkington found two birds at Headlands Beach SP on the 1st. One was a banded bird from Sleeping Bear Dunes National Seashore, MI. One was relocated on the 2nd. WHITE-WINGED DOVE: On the 28th, John Habig et al. found one in Delaware near the intersection of US Route 23 and SR 750. Apparently it was never relocated. HARRIS'S SPARROW: Paul Wharton had one at his feeders at 7528 East Miami River Road Colerain Township, northwestern Cincinnati area, on the 27th and 28th. Other Noteworthy Species RED-NECKED GREBE: John Pogacnik watched one drift by the Lake Erie shore in Lake County on the 27th LITTLE BLUE HERON: The Magee Marsh causeway bird lingers. It was most recently reported by Kenn Kaufman on the 3rd. Bob Foppe saw an adult bird on the 30th at Indian Creek State Wildlife Area, Brown County. AMERICAN AVOCET: Kenn Kaufmann reported at least two from Metzger Marsh on the 28th. Five were being seen there on the 2nd. Shari Jackson saw 46 touch down then leave at Walborn Reservoir, Stark County, on the 2nd. WILLET: Kenn Kaufmann reported 10 from Metzger Marsh on the 28th. On the 2nd, a second-hand report placed 10 at the Columbia Reservation, Lorain County Metroparks (fide Jen Brumfield). LAUGHING GULL: Ken Davis saw one at Hoover Reservoir, Delaware County, from Area M/N on the 29th. GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER: The Columbus Avid Birders saw one in Shawnee SF on the 28th. Jason Larson found one at the wetlands at The Wilds on the 3rd. CLAY-COLORED SPARROW: Kenn Kaufmann found one at the east end of the parking lot at Magee Marsh on the 1st. Greg Lovalenti photographed one in West Toledo on the 2nd (RareBirds.org). LE CONTE'S SPARROW: Rick Nirschl observed one closely along the boardwalk at Irwin Prairie, Lucas County, on the 28th. BLUE GROSBEAK: Arrived at their Adams County breeding grounds on the 27th (fide Bill Whan). The Columbus Avid Birders found one at the traditional location near the Pickaway County airport on the 28th. Bruce Glick found one on the 30th, east of Berlin in Holmes County. Bill Hull found them at the Cincinnati Nature Center, Clermont County, on the 1st. One visited Glen Crippen's feeder in rural Morgan County on the 2nd.
