Had a female greater scaup at Summit Lake this afternoon. Why? I looked at
this bird yesterday with binoculars and it was very flat-headed, not unlike a
scoter. Today I saw it fairly close in the scope with a few lesser scaups.
Head seen from back wider than other individuals. It just feels bigger. Most
greaters I identify are close enough like this that they just are bigger birds.
The lessers flew some but this one didn't so I don't have any wing details.
If anyone sees this bird and can tell me why this bird is a lesser scaup I'd
like to learn about it. Also had a northern waterthrush yesterday.

Peace,
