Reports have been gleaned by the compiler from various internet sources, particularly Ohio-birds, The Ohio Birding Forum, the RareBird.org forums, Cincinnati Bird Sightings Log, Southwestern Ohio (Dayton) Rare Bird Alert, and from some individual observers who kindly share their knowledge. Questions, comments, complaints and additional noteworthy sightings not posted to one of the above may be sent to the compiler. Review List Species. (Review list species are sufficiently rare that details of any sighting can help increase our understanding of Ohio's bird life. Suggestions and guidelines for submitting documentation of review list birds can be found at the OOS website (www.ohiobirds.org). GLOSSY IBIS: Practically invading the state. On 5/12 Gabe Hostetler relocated three birds at Moore’s Marsh in the Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area. The now famous group at Metzger Marsh numbered seven on 5/12. One bird was found at Prairie Oaks Metropark (west of Columbus) on 5/14 by Linda and Mike Dudzinsky. On 5/15 Chris Pierce saw a single bird at Sandy Ridge Reservation. KIRTLAND’S WARBLER: Marry Warren reported one found at Magee Marsh on 5/16. No further comments were made. Highlights: King Rail – Aaron Boone, Paul Rodewald, and John Kuenzli had a brief glimpse of a single bird along the Magee Causeway on 5-16. Wilson’s Phalarope – Ben Warner spotted one at Metzger Marsh on 5/11. He could not relocate it the next day. Red-necked Phalarope- Aaron Boone and his big day group had one at Longbrake Wetlands in Hardin County on 5/16. Laughing Gull – One adult bird was found by Paul Gardner at Metzger Marsh on 5/12. Black Tern – Many observers enjoyed this species at Metzger Marsh and the Ottawa NWR auto tour on 5/12. Olive-sided Flycatcher – Dave Horn reported one from Whetstone Park in Columbus on 5/13. Bell’s Vireo – Brad Sparks and Jeff Grabmeier successfully chased the two Ohio State University birds on the 13th. Connecticut Warbler – A delighted Ben Warner vanquished this nemesis bird at Ottawa NWR on 5/17. It was in the woodlot near the visitor’s center. Lark Sparrow – Ben Warner found three birds at Oak Openings Metropark near Toledo on 5/11. They were in their traditional spot along Girdham Road.
