On this chilly and breezy day I birded from 9-6 at various spots around Columbus. With a lot of effort (because of the winds) I saw at GREENLAWN CEMETARY (34 species): Great Blue Heron Turkey Vulture Canada Goose Red-tailed Hawk Mourning Dove Chimney Swift Red-bellied Woodpecker Downy Woodpecker Eastern Phoebe Eastern Kingbird Warbling Vireo Red-eyed Vireo Blue Jay Tree Swallow Northern Rough-winged Swallow Barn Swallow House Wren Swainson's Thrush American Robin Gray Catbird Northern Mockingbird European Starling Cedar Waxwing Magnolia Warbler Black-throated Green Warbler Blackburnian Warbler American Redstart, m/f Chipping Sparrow Northern Cardinal Common Grackle Brown-headed Cowbird House Finch American Goldfinch House Sparrow BIKE PATH ON SCIOTO RIVER NEAR RT. 33/I-670 (Additional 3 species) Eastern Wood-Pewee Yellow-rumped Warbler Blackpoll Warbler KIWANIS PARK (Additional 5 species) Mallard Carolina Chickadee White-breasted Nuthatch Carolina Wren Baltimore Oriole EMILY TRAPHAGEN PRESERVE (Additional 7 species) Blue-gray Gnatcatcher Wood Thrush Scarlet Tanager Eastern Towhee, m/f Song Sparrow Indigo Bunting Red-winged Blackbird HIGHBANKS METROPARK (Additional 4 species) Hairy Woodpecker Tufted Titmouse Field Sparrow Rose-breasted Grosbeak, 2f And three deer WOODED AREA NEAR HOME IN N. COLUMBUS (Add'l 2 species) American Crow Broad-winged Hawk - this was a grand finale for my day's birding. This immature hawk chased first one crow and then another three times, close to me.
