A male northern harrier cruised through the area yesterday morning just over the nesting area of some kildeer and semipalmated plovers.. The plovers got my attention with some distressful calling as they were escaping one of their mortal enemies. The harrier continued across West Broad at Galloway Rds. and headed for a field surrounding the nearest high school. This may be the same male harrier I saw on April 13th just a mile south of here. This report certainly was not about any unusual species, but as a newcomer to birding,it helps broaden one's experience with the hobby. I've heard that merlins sometime follow the harrier as it cruises through an area as it searches for prey.
