Compiler: Paul Gardner. Email: [log in to unmask] Yellow-crowned Night-Heron: On the 25th Bill Whan observed a total of 10 young in the two nests at Preston Road, Columbus. The departure of the colony is expected in early July. Mississippi Kite: The Mississippi kite at the Brass Ring Country Club golf course in Logan, Hocking County, has been seen throughout the week by multiple observers. There is evidence that there is be a breeding pair. Please report any evidence of multiple birds or of breeding-related behavior. King Rail: Sandy Brown's find at a marshy area west of the boat ramp at Turkeyfoot Lake State Park, Summit County, was still present on the 27th. Upland Sandpiper: David Hess passed along a report that one was seen on the 21st at the Hopeton Earthwork Unit of Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, Chillicothe. Unfortunately, this is a research unit not currently open to the public. Although stymied by the National Park Service, you can try your luck with the Department of Homeland Security: Craig Holt passed along information that "Uppies" are present at the OSU Airport (Don Scott Field), Columbus, at the Harrison County Airport, Cadiz, and possibly at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton. Glaucous Gull: Phillip North reports a probable immature Glaucous Gull at the temporary wetland south of the Lowes Parking lot at the Junction of I270 and S. High Street (US 23), Columbus. It was seen throughout the week most recently on the 28th. Eurasian Collared-Dove: The pair at Fort Jefferson, Darke County, was seen by multiple observers on Saturday, the 23rd, then apparently received little attention during the week. They seem to favor the utility poles east of town along Weaver-Fort Jefferson Rd but may be found elsewhere. Tom Barlett and Dave Hershey missed the Fort Jefferson birds on the 26th but found three previously unreported ones in West Manchester, Preble County. Bell's Vireo: Bob Royse found one singing on private land near Deer Creek State Park, Pickaway County, on the 25th. - End Transcript Paul Gardner Columbus, OH ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
