Bill Fissell has complained, this date, of the hummer feeder quickly
fouling. I strongly suspect the problem is with the water used.
Bacteria can grow in water filters, wells, water heaters (temp. too low),
water softners, and the piping in general. I suggest trying purchased
water, and you might also try another brand of sugar.

I have no problem with changing the feeder once a week, and may or may not
clean with bleach. Some people suggest boiling the water first, but I see
no need for that if the water is satisfactory to start with, nor for
allowing water to stand to remove residial chlorine from city water.
