Recently someone on this list asked me one tree to plant that will attract birds. I think I found the answer at East Harbor State Park on Lake Erie this past weekend. A Mulberry tree with just maturing fruits was attracting many Cedar Waxwings, Purple Finches, Robins, Blue Jays, and even a Nuthatch stopped by to see what the attraction was. I imagine as the fruit ripens the tree will be visited by more fruit loving species. If you don't mind stains left by the berries and the birds, this appears to be a tree that can attract several species. It's an added bonus if you like to eat and cook with mulberries.
