Just a side note. I stopped by the area the other week. Since it was about lunch time, I tried to find some place to go in the little Village of Galena. I went into the "Mudflats Bar and Grill", mostly because of the name. :o) It was not what I expected from a "Bar and Grill". It has a very clean and comfortable dining room and the food was plentiful and delicious. Because I was a vegetarian, the owner even said she could have something made up special just for me - though there were also some vegetarian options on the menu. It was a very pleasant experience. I just thought I would let you know, because I know a lot of you travel a far distance to see the shorebirds and it is nice to have a place close by to stop for a bite to eat. It's really shaping up nicely at this point, as there is a lot of exposed mud. There wasn't anything spectacular, but the numbers seemed pretty good. There were 9 shorebird species in total. Killdeer - 220 Least Sandpiper - 40 Semipalmated Sandpiper - 8 Semipalmated Plover - 1 Solitary Sandpiper - 6 Spotted Sandpiper - 29 Lesser Yellowlegs - 41 Greater Yellowlegs - 1 Pectoral Sandpiper - 6 Caspian Tern - 8 Good birding, John -- John Kuenzli Columbus, OH ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
