I visited Sandy Ridge with Jeremiah Roth last evening. The rains we had in the last week have covered most of the good shorebird habitat that was emerging, but we still had some good birds. While walking the trail through the woods, at least 5 Great Horned Owls were calling back and forth. out in the wetlands we saw the following: Pied-billed Grebe Mallards Blue-winged Teal Wood Ducks Canada Geese Accipiter spp Sandhill Cranes - 2 Caspian Terns - 2 Great Egrets Gr. Blue Herons Green Herons Kildeer - 2 Greater Yellowlegs Lesser Yellowlegs Solitary Sandpiper WILSON'S PHALAROPES - 2 Kingfisher Barn Swallows Chimney Swifts Indigo Buntings Song Sparrows The Phalaropes were the first I have seen at Sandy Ridge. See you on the trails, Chris Pierce N. Olmsted, OH ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
