We arrived at 7am and departed at 5pm. There was constant mild to moderate rain with a moderate wind from the East. Bird activity was brisk until about 10am and very slow after 11am. A Marbled Godwit was present when we arrived. It and a group of Black-bellied Plovers departed quickly when an immature Bald Eagle flew over. The Western Sandpipers landed close to our car and allowed good but brief views. When Jerry Stanley arrived in the afternoon, he relocated one along the entrance to the harbor. It was present when we departed. The Turnstones were present for about 30 seconds, but they too landed close to our car. Many other birds did not. So the numbers below do not reflect the bird activity at the harbor this am. There were many flybys and touchdowns that we could not identify. Here are the results. Marbled Godwit - 1 Baird's Sandpiper - 2 Western Sandpiper - 3 Am. Golden Plover - 6 Bl-bellied Plover - 6 Ruddy Turnstones - 3 Short-billed Dowitcher - 7 Sanderlings - 5 Pectoral Sandpiper - 3 Least Sandpiper - 13 Semipalm Sandpiper - 6 Spotted Sandpiper - 2 Semipalm Plover - 5 Killdeer - 10 Greater Yellowlegs - 1 Lesser Yellowlegs - 8 Caspian Tern - 3 Common Tern - 10 Bonaparte's Gull - 6 Bald Eagle - 1 Osprey - 1 Kingfisher - 2 Green Heron - 1 Sora - 1 (reported by Jerry Stanley) Regards, Walt and Dana Shaffer Pittsburgh, Pa ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
