I birded Hoover Reservoir after work yesterday, Aug. 6., from the boardwalk and from the Yacht Club side. I didn't find any large flocks or any shorebird species that haven't been reported this week. Observation would have been better from Wiese Rd, as there was a sizable, diverse flock there, and the afternoon sun would have been at my back. I met Bernie Masters and Tom Manion on the boardwalk. Bernie had found a prairie falcon perched in a tree off the end of the boardwalk. It had a green band with a flag on its left leg and the remnants of a jess on its right. The mudflats remain extensive after the weekend rains. Highlights include: Semipalmated plover - about 10 on the Wiese Rd side of the boardwalk Greater yellowlegs Lesser yellowlegs Willet - 1 seen from the northeastern side Spotted sandpiper Least sandpiper Pectoral sandpiper Short-billed dowitcher - 2 on the Wiese Rd side of the boardwalk Stilt sandpiper - Wiese Rd side of the boardwalk Caspian tern - Bernie counted 18 on the northeastern side Cheers, Paul Gardner Columbus, OH ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
