From Columbus W of Sciota River, S of Hayden Run Falls, bridge Two weeks ago I sighted an immature bald eagle - which was exciting, the second sighting in my neighborhood in 30 years - but not unexpected as we have had bald eagle nesting in this area. But tonight I sighted a bird with a slight wing dihedral which I was going to calk up as a turkey vulture till I noted the bird's head. The time was 5:00 - 5:15pm, full sun. The head was not bright white, but was very, very light. Then I noted the wings had white windows in the axillary region. I am very certain that I had a 1'st year golden eagle (luckily with the white, wing windows which are not always present) and I have a neighbor who corroborated all but the wings (who, as an armature, might not have noted). So, I am hopping someone else may have sighted this migrating 1st year golden eagle. It was ridding a thermal so I had long sightings as it circled with more distant gulls above. Also, as noted by others, we have had an influx of red breasted nuthatches. A very unhappy small sighting of warblers here. Cheers ********************************************************* Sandra L.
