This morning I had the fun of taking Ned Foley and his son Robbie birding at the preserve. Both are new birders and every field trip provides discoveries. Robbie was the influencing factor here but his father seems to be on the road to becoming a hard core birder too. Robbie's enthusiasm is contagious and it was fun to watch his joy with each new species he discovered. I met them at the boardwalk at Area M and then took them to the east shore mudflats. While there we were joined by Bill Kinkead and Marcie Howden who were both birding separately along the east shore. The four of us then birded together until we had to leave for other commitments. Species we observed at the east shore mudflats included: Double-crested Cormorant Great Blue Heron Great Egret Canada Goose Mallard Turkey Vulture Broad-winged Hawk Red-tailed Hawk Black-bellied Plover Lesser Golden-Plover Semipalmated Plover Killdeer Greater Yellowlegs Lesser Yellowlegs Spotted Sandpiper Semipalmated Sandpiper Least Sandpiper Baird's Sandpiper Pectoral Sandpiper Short-billed Dowitcher Ring-billed Gull Caspian Tern Tree Swallow American Crow American Robin Cedar Waxwing Bill and Ned also observed several other species before I met them. These included: Green Heron Osprey Bald Eagle Charlie Bombaci Hoover Nature Preserve Delorme 58 C (2) & (3) ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
