Birders were outnumbered by Buff-breated Sandpipers this windy morning on both sides of Hoover Resevoir. Jackie Brown, Tom Bain and others found a high of 14 on the west side north of Pelican Island early (cooperative birds), then later a high of 18 (a solid count) on the east side south of Wiese Road (likely some or all of the first flock seen, but intriguing). The Wiese Road buff's were a walk to the south almost to the small boat anchord near shore. No luck with the Red Phalarope (darn), or the Red-necked's. No sign of Baird's. No one complaining with Buff's everywhere. Several birders excited about the OOS and partner's Fall Warbler Symposium at Lakeside this weekend! Shorebirds seen: BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, 18 Peeps (Least's mostly, some Semi-palmated, but none were clearly not Least's or Semi's--looking for phalaropes), 30+ Semi-palmated Plover, 8+ Short-billed Dowitcher, 6 Killdeer, many Greater Yellowlegs, 5 Lesser Yellowlegs, 6 Pectoral Sandpiper, 1 Spotted Sandpiper, 1 Caspian Tern, 2 Double-crested Cormorants, many A Peregrine Falcon presented a great show tormenting low saoring Turkey Vultures when it wasn't stooping shorebirds. ETC. Tom Bain & Jackie Brown ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
