2-3 years after we had moved out to our Licking County home I decided to check out the butterfly/hummingbird garden at 11 p.m. There I saw a big moth! I ran back to the garage to get a flashlight & net to catch & id it. Thank goodness I realized that it was a hummingbird before I attempted to net it. I called Tom Thompson the following day & after some pondering Tom suggested that the mercury lights coupled with the blooming of the nicotiana was too tempting for the hummer to pass up. I've also had a hummer come to within 3-4 inches of me once when I was wearing a bright pink shirt. That bird must have been thinking that that was one big flower!
