Hello All, Early this Wednesday morning I made a quick trip to the East side of Hoover Reservoir in hopes of finding the 2 Red-necked and 1 Red Phalarope reported there as late as yesterday afternoon/evening. At the inlet just N of Pelican Island, I found both Yellowlegs and 2 s-b Dowitchers, but no sign of the Phalaropes, so I continued on North to the next inlet where there were a lot of Canada Geese, but no shorebirds. I returned South along the lake and by scanning ahead, saw a distant group of shorebirds on the sand/gravel peninsula. The closer I got, the better it got as there were 4 Buff-breasted Sandpipers, 1 Baird's Sandpiper, and the Red Phalarope, busily feeding in a kind of dry trough or depressed area that runs parallel to the lake. I positioned myself with the sun to my back, for great looks at less than 30 yards. They were still there when I left at about 7:40 AM. Also seen were Least, Semi-palmated and Spotted Sandpipers. I'm guessing that the Red-necked Phalaropes are still in the area, possibly near the boardwalk or along the Weisse Road access.
