- RBA * Ohio * Statewide * September 28, 2007 * OHST0709.28 - Species Mentioned (Caps denote a review list species) Willet Franklin's Gull Little Gull Sabine's Gull Yellow-bellied Flycatcher: - Transcript This is the Ohio Rare Bird Report for September 28, 2007. Compiler: Paul Gardner. Email: [log in to unmask] Seasonal Highlights: Shorebird numbers and diversity seem to be in deep decline, or perhaps we've just gotten tired of chasing and reporting them. Songbirds remain diverse and numerous. The stars of the week are gulls. Although there are no review-list birds on the RBA this week (a first for the year), the lingering Sabine's Gull may be a first state-record of a sort. Willet: One has been frequenting a drawn-down pond at the St. Marys Fish Hatchery, Auglaise County. Photos from the 27th are in the Sabine's Gull thread at Rarebird.org. Franklin's Gull: The Indian Lake, Logan County, bird from last week was observed by Ben Warner on the 22nd. Little Gull: Ray Hannikmann and his compadres saw two buzz the west beach at Headlands Beach State Park, Lake County, on the 24th. Sabine's Gull: Apparently discovered on the 25th by Mary Misplon at the St. Marys Fish Hatchery, the bird was widely observed and photographed as late as the 27th. There is a negative report from the morning of the 28th. Photographs at Rarebird.org and elsewhere. Although not a review-list species, a Sabine's gull lingering for more than half a day at an Ohio site may well be the rarest bird to grace these reports. Yellow-bellied Flycatcher: One was at the Strimple Road/golf course "lake" area of the Miami Whitewater Forest, Hamilton County on the 22nd according to Albert Scruggs. - End Transcript Paul Gardner Columbus, OH ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
