Compiler: Paul Gardner. Email: [log in to unmask] Northern Goshawk: Paula Lozano observed one circling above Oakwood Park, Lorain, on the 9th. David English reported an immature bird flying over Solon, Cuyahoga County, on the 10th. Yellow Rail: Gabe Leidy found one at the not-open-to-the-general-public Dike 14, Cuyahoga County on the 6th. American Avocet: On the 7th Doug Vogus reported that one was found during the monthly census of not-open-to-the-general-public areas of the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. Red Knot: Like the above, but three in number. Buff-breasted Sandpiper: Troy Shively found one at Old Field Beach at Indian Lake SP in Logan County on the 5th. Franklin's Gull: Troy Shively found one at Old Field Beach at Indian Lake SP in Logan County on the 5th. Presumably this is the same bird that was first reported in mid-September. Also on the 5th, Larry Gara found one on the beach at Caesar's Creek SP, Warren County. A day later the beach at Deer Creek SP, Pickaway County, yielded one to Aaron Boone. Doug Overacker confirmed that the eight reported last week at Buck Creek State Park, Clark County, were still present on the 6th. Clay-colored Sparrow: Ben Fambrough saw one at Dike 14, Cuyahoga county, on the 5th. Gabe Leidy saw one outside the fence there on the 11th. Also on the 11th, John Pogacnik had one visiting his yard in North Perry, Lake County, while Ray Hannikman found one at Headlands Beach SP in Lake County. Ben Fambrough relocated his bird outside the northwest corner of the fence at Dike 14 on the 12th. Leconte's Sparrow: One was spotted by Ray Hannikman on the Wake Robin Trail at Headlands Beach SP, Lake County, on the 11th. Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow: Bill Whan reported that the Columbus Avid Birders found a few at the Lorain impoundment, Lorain County, on the 6th. Ethan Kistler found one on private land near Newton Falls, Trumbull County, on the 7th.
