Tuesday, October 9, 2007, 12:30-12:40 p.m. Oakwood Park, Lorain Observer: Paula Lozano Northern Goshawk - 1 While driving slowly (speed limit 10 mph) through Oakwood Park, I noticed a medium-size raptor circling above the trees. I parked, got out and observed the bird as it circled, gained altitude and drifted eastward. What caught my attention the most was the bird's deep, strong wingbeats. Besides the wingbeats and its size, other field marks noted were a heavily streaked chest and a dark banded tail with a thin white tip. In addition, the white feathering on either side of the base of the tail was very noticeable. As I was leaving, I had another quick glimpse of the bird as it returned to the area where I first saw it.
