Hummingbird expert Allen Chartier tells me that keeping hummingbird feeders filled in Ohio for a few more weeks could be productive. He's banded more rufous hummingbirds in Michigan this season than ever (4), including two just the other day. He noted these birds seemed to be in an unexpectedly early stage of molt, which may mean hummingbirds' migration could be delayed a couple of weeks or more in 2007. Over the past couple of weeks, rufous hummingbirds have been reported in Ohio (2), MI (3), KY (3), VA, PA, DC, NH, and MA; Anna's in WI; a green-breasted mango in GA; and a black-chinned in MA.
