Just a word of thanks and congratulations for all the birders who've fanned out across the state in the last few days, reporting the unexpected appearances of the usual southbound migrants, rare wanderers, and those of irruptive ones from the north. An unusual number of these birders went on speculative exploratory 'lion' missions, and--more than 'hyenas' like myself who merely followed the discoveries of others--accepted records of their sightings will be of great value in documenting this fall's unusual migration.
