A quick morning trip around the southern end of Hoover found a surprising number of birds in the cold windy weather. The tardy N. Rough-winged Swallow continues to make a living in the spillway below the dam, again briefly inciting dreams of Cave swallow. Waterfowl were scant in number but interesting: Pied-billed Grebe above the dam, Black Ducks mixed in with the Mallards in the spillway, Ruddy Duck & Red-br.Merganser off Area F, and Hooded Mergansers in Duncan Glen inlet. 2 adult Bald Eagles were perched in trees along the shoreline at Area F. Plenty of Ring-billed Gulls were scattered along the shore (150+), but I couldn't find any other larids among them.
