I watched a black vulture fly overhead in Eastlake on Saturday, sat in a nearby treetop until many other birds, mostly jays harrassed it and he flew off. Driving further east, I spotted 2 red-tailed hawks perched on a telephone wire, hunting a small field below them. Then while walking in Chagrin River Park yesterday, I spotted 2 downy woodpeckers on a branch. they actually seemed to be eating the inside bark of the branch as there were no berries or nuts on the branch. I have been seeing a lot of hawks lately on roadside poles or telephone wires. With so much habitat loss, I guess they are running out of places to hunt Paula Lozano <[log in to unmask]> wrote: Monday, November 19, 2007, 7:45-8:00 a.m. Observer: Paula Lozano Scoters - 70-75, mixed raft of Surf & Black C.
