Hi Laura and all, An Osprey isn't out of the question. There is a smattering of records into December, although I don't have the references close at hand to cite exact dates. Also, interestingly enough, Paul Baicich, who was one of our speakers at the conference and an extraordinary birder, reported an Osprey to me from Friday in nearly the same place you saw yours. Paul saw it on Friday on his way down to Deer Creek. Jim Jim McCormac Columbus, Ohio Like nature? Visit my blog: http://jimmccormac.blogspot.com/ Like birds? On Wilderness Rd, at Funk Bottoms in Wayne County, we observed ~50 Sandhill Cranes feeding in a corn field on the south side of the road. Awesome sight. We also had what has to be a very questionable sighting...while driving just south of the landfill on I-71 south of Columbus we saw what really looked like an Osprey, carrying a fish ("head on", just like Osprey carry them). We were past it before we could get a really good look but 3 of us in the car really had the impression of Osprey, not eagle. (Thankfully the driver did not try to get a good look!) Does anyone know of the likelyhood of an Osprey in Ohio this late in the year or has anyone else seen either an Osprey or an eagle in this area?
