The flock could not be relocated that afternoon. Long-tailed Duck: Bret McCarty located one at Lakewood Park, Cuyahoga County, on the 2nd. Snowy Owl: The adult owl hanging around the Point Place neighborhood of Toledo seems to range from 116th to 119th streets near the lake. The last positive report was on the 2nd. Photos at Rarebird.org. Ruby-throated Hummingbird: A female still visiting a feeder on the east side of Toledo as of December 5 has set the Ohio state-record for latest fall occurrence of the species. Photos in a couple of threads at www.rarebird.org. RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD: Tim Tolford reports banding an adult female on the 30th at a residence in the Hartwell/Wyoming neighborhood of Cincinnati. Apparently the bird has been faithful to the feeder since late October and was still being seen this morning. The immature male visiting a garden and feeders in Bluffton, Allen County, remains through the 6th. The bird was captured and banded on October 29th. Pictures are at Rarebird.org. Birders are welcome. Linda Houshower, the homeowner, provided these directions: Bluffton is off I-75, 18 miles north of Lima or south of Findlay. Take either Bluffton exit, east on Main St. to the Fire station on one corner, and East of Chicago on the other corner, the street is Washington. Turn left(north),3 stop signs(Jackson, Lawn, Spring), the house is a tall brown with red roof on the right, where the street dead ends. Park on the side of the street or at the dead end. Come up the sidewalk towards the house, can't miss the feeders and activity. Northern Shrike: At least seven were reported this week. The one reported last week in Geauga County south of Chagrin Falls on Chagrin River Road near the power line easement about 1000 ft east of the Cuyahoga County line was reported again on the 5th. Birds eyeing residential feeders were reported on the 30th in Darke County, on the 3rd in Ashtabula County, and on the 5th in Lucas County. The bird (now two apparently) was found on the 21st by Matt Anderson along Obee Road just east of its intersection with Rt 295. This is just east of Oak Openings Metropark, Lucas County. A metal gate on the north side of Obee Road and a sheep pen on the south are good landmarks. Photos at Rarebird.org.
