This morning on my way to Kroger, I noticed a merlin perched on the electric wires running alongside Lazelle Road just east of Sancus Blvd. in northern Columbus. I wish I had my camera with me at the time. Of course it was gone by the time I was going home. When I got home I grabbed my camera and my binoculars and went out looking for it. I walked along Lazelle Road and then into Lazelle Woods Park looking for that bird. I never found it but I did see some interesting birds in the park. white breasted nuthatches Carolina chickadees tufted titmice northern cardinals blue jays dark eyed juncos house sparrows red-bellied woodpeckers hairy woodpeckers 1 downy woodpecker 1 pair of Carolina wrens 1 red-tailed hawk soaring overhead 1 northern mockingbird Most of the birds I saw were in the back of the park at the edge of the woods. There is a townhouse condiminium abutting the west side of the park which has a birdfeeder. That is were I saw the sparrows, tufted titmice, and some of the Carolina chickadees. The fencerow between the park and the nursery is a good place to look for birds. That is where I saw the mockingbird.
