Rick Asamoto and I did some birding in Preble County today as part of the Winter Atlasing. We were able to locate four Eurasian Collared-Doves in West Manchester. One of them is nearly all white. We located them on the western-most road in the Village that runs north and south. We spoke to Larry and his wife, the home owners where we found the birds, and he said he has lived there five years and that the birds have been there for the last three years. We told them that there might be more birders coming to look for the doves. They were very friendly people and said they would tell their neighbors that other birders may be coming to look for the doves. To get to the road go into the center of town and turn left. The road will deadend into the north-south road. At the south end there is a long lane (private property) going back to a farmhouse. At the entrance to this lane is the house that had the Doves. Larry has some dogs that made some racket but that did not bother the birds. The birds were in the Maple tree at first. The birds also fed at the edge of the corn field. Just before we left three of the birds flew into the center of town. We were not able to relocate them at that time but did not spend much more time looking as we wanted to continue birding elsewhere.
