Hello! Today, Ken and Julie Davis and myself checked out some birding spots in the central Ohio area. We went to the following areas in order: Greenlawn cemetery, Haul Road quarry lakes, Scioto River below Greenlawn dam, Olentangy River near Drake Union, Kiwanis Park, and Glacier Ridge Metro Park. The notable birds seen and/or heard are as follows: GREENLAWN CEMETERY Merlin-as soon as we neared the pit, Julie immediately saw 1 in a tree just north of the pit and west of the mausoleum. It stayed in the tree for a long time affording us and others great views. Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker-2 Red-Breasted Nuthatch-1 at feeders A gentleman indicated that a Pine Warbler was observed near the feeders yesterday (figures) Nothing observed near the "bridge" HAUL ROAD QUARRY LAKES Redhead-1 male 2 females Common Goldeneye-1 male Bufflehead-2 Hooded Merganser-1 pair Pied-Billed Grebe Ring-Necked Duck-1 pair Black Duck-4 SCIOTO RIVER BELOW GREENLAWN DAM-nothing, high water OLENTANGY RIVER BEHIND DRAKE UNION ON OSU CAMPUS Black-Crowned Night Heron-10 KIWANIS PARK Sharp-Shinned Hawk Cedar Waxwing GLACIER RIDGE METRO PARK Barred Owl Savannah Sparrow Fox Sparrow-1 along Mitchell-DeWitt Road Northern Harrier-2 Northern Pintail Black Duck-5 Please e-mail me privately if you need directions to any of the aforementioned places.
