I think I saw the same unusual Herring Gull described bt Chris Spagnoli at E. 72nd St. on Friday. I took a few snapshots of it. My guess is that it is a slightly leucistic Herring Gull. I posted some photos of it at RareBird.org here : http://www.rarebird.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2643&PN=1 Yesterday I took a short drive north to Big Island and Killdeer Plains, but the weather was so terrible that birding was a waste of time (and gas). I did see 2 Short-eared Owls around noon flying around at Big Island over a dried up impoundment along La Rue - Prospect Rd. in the company of several N Harriers.
