While visiting Walter C Best Preserve just south of Chardon on Rt 44, a bald eagle swooped across the lake and landed in a tree. It was easily visible from the waterfowl blind at the end of the trail. Otherwise only mallards, downies and crows were seen, although a northern shrike was reported for our CBC on New Year's Day. Our home feeder hosted the usual cardinals, jays, titmice, chickadees, goldfinches, Downy and Red-Bellied WP, juncos and RB nuthatch. A flock of 8-10 robins visited the crabapples on Friday. Incidentally, I have 5 Texas birding books that I used for a trip over the holidays and would be happy to loan to anyone planning a trip. They are Birding Texas, Birder's Guide to Texas, Birds of Texas, Birding Corpus Christi, and Exploring the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. I highly recommend the King Ranch tour!
