13 observers showed up for my bird walk (8 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.) Highlights were both nuthatches at peanut feeder at the bird blind, nice looks at a male hairy woodpecker, a male yb sapsucker in the pines along edge trail, a rb woodpecker male excavating a nest cavity, and a pair of red-shouldered hawks courting over the field. Dave Helm showed the group a road killed Eastern screech-owl (gray phase), that he found in Adams county, before we left the parking lot.<br>We also noted a barred owl feather attached to a thorny twig in a field near where a barred owl has been frequenting the area. Number of species: 27 Canada Goose 8 Mallard 16 Turkey Vulture 3 Red-shouldered Hawk 2 Pair very vocal over edge trail, one member of pair performing closed wing dives while other member of pair hovered high over field. Mourning Dove 4 Red-bellied Woodpecker 11 One male excavating nest cavity in top of dead snag on edge trail, removing wood chips. Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 1 Steve Bobonick found in pines along edge trail. Downy Woodpecker 4 Hairy Woodpecker 2 One male along driveway near where I had a pair earlier this AM. Another bird heard on edge trail. Northern Flicker 1 Blue Jay 8 American Crow 2 Carolina Chickadee 15 Tufted Titmouse 10 Red-breasted Nuthatch 1 Visiting peanut feeder at bird blind adjacent to crop fields. A male wb nuthatch also coming to same feeder for nice comparisons for group of bird walk participants. White-breasted Nuthatch 4 Carolina Wren 3 American Robin 1 Northern Mockingbird 1 European Starling 2 Eastern Towhee 1 Under spruces adjacent to recycling center. Field Sparrow 2 Song Sparrow 5 White-throated Sparrow 4 Dark-eyed Junco 14 Northern Cardinal 31 At least 14 of these seen at the bird blind.
