Bob Thobaben, Larry Gara, and I were at Cowan Lake this afternoon with the Wilmington College ornithology class this afternoon, Sunday, 24 Feb 08. The cold weather of the last several days has dramatically reduced the amount of open water, but a good collection of waterfowl continues. We had good views of the adult female Surf Scoter from the parking lot above the campground beach. When we got around to the south side, we found Dan Sanders at the fishing pier. He had found two White-winger Scoters. Scoters are becoming regular in winter in Southwest Ohio, but it is still noteworthy to have two species of scoter present at the same time. Also noted among waterfowl were Canada Goose several hundred American Wigeon 2 American Black Duck 20 Mallard Many Redhead -- Robert D Powell Wilmington, OH, USA [log in to unmask] http://rdp1710.wordpress.com Nulla dies sine linea ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
